Aout the opportunity

  • Temporary position up to 6 months 
  • Coordinate administration and operations of the Arts and Cultural Development Unit.

Blacktown City Council is offering an exciting temporary opportunity in its Arts and Cultural Development section. The Arts and Cultural development section is responsible for the delivery of the Blacktown Arts program, the management and programming of The Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre, and for cultural planning for the City of Blacktown.

We have a temporary vacancy in our Co-ordinator Operations and Administration role, which would suit an experienced producer or venue manager. You should be highly organised, have experience in managing and training staff, and be able to determine and manage technical requirements for exhibition, performances, workshops and site specific works. You will have highly developed teamwork and supervision skills, and an understanding of best practice in the management of a multi-disciplinary contemporary arts centre or program. We require applicants with a high level of expertise and knowledge in managing the Work Health and Safety aspects of an arts venue or company.

Qualifications and experience
Essential:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Arts Administration/Management or related field
  • Minimum five years experience in managing a public arts or cultural facility, including visitor services, maintenance, scheduling, and financial
  • Minimum three years managing a small team
  • Familiarity with the technical and equipment requirements, operations and maintenance for a performing arts and gallery facility
  • Current Class “C” driver’s licence.

Desirable:

  • Experience in a senior administrative role in the arts or cultural sector
  • Experience working with artists
  • Experience in local government
  • Proven ability to provide operational and technical support for multi-disciplinary contemporary arts programs
  • Demonstrated high level administration and organisational skills
  • Excellent negotiation, interpersonal and communication skills including high level computer literacy
  • Developing and managing budgets.

Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

  • A competitive salary range of $1,582.90 - $1,772.80 (Grade 14) per week will be offered based on skills, qualifications and experience
  • 35 hour working week 
  • Opportunity to participate in Council's flextime arrangement
