He angitūtanga: The opportunity

You will be the frontline in protecting our environment and community. No two days are the same as you investigate a wide variety of issues including (but not limited to): unconsented building works; breaches of the Auckland Unitary Plan; removal or damage of our protected trees; pollution incidents being sure contaminants are controlled and eliminated and offenders are identified and held to account. We achieve this often through a multi-agency approach working closely with internal and external partners.  These roles may involve working after hours from time to time.  The role may require you to prepare cases for enforcement action up to and including giving evidence in court.

He kōrero mōu: About you

Verbal and written communication skills are key to these roles. You will need to have highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate and deal with a range of people. A natural problem solver, you will demonstrate the ability to understand what is required to build relationships and resolve conflict through negotiation.

Applicants with prior investigations, compliance and enforcement experienced are encouraged to apply, along with those experienced in the building industry and/or with a tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Planning, or similar is beneficial but not essential.  The role would suit individuals with this range of experience combined with knowledge of relevant statutory documents, the RMA, Building Act 2004 and other relevant legislation. 

You are strong team player, able to demonstrate a solid understanding of relevant legislations as well as the ability to effectively translate requirements to customers.

These roles are deemed safety sensitive and in line with Auckland Council policy, you will be required to complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.  

A current full clean driver's licence is essential and if successful you will be warranted by Auckland Council allowing you to enter premises and inspect breaches or offences.
