Canterbury Bankstown City Council is one of NSW’s leading local government entities.  It is strongly committed to innovation, operational excellence and performance improvement.  With the current incumbent moving to a newly appointed delivery project, the organisation is seeking to appoint an experienced people manager for a two-year contract as Manager Works and Projects.


This role manages a multi-disciplinary team including an internal design team as well as a project delivery team.  It requires extensive consultation and collaboration with key internal stakeholders and clients.  Reporting to the Director Operations, the role is responsible for:

  • the delivery of Council’s capital works program, ensuring effective resource management and on-time completion;
  • leading, developing and managing teams to support change initiatives and to drive performance improvement;
  • commercially astute management of procurement, projects and resources to maximise outcomes and ensure value for money; and,
  • regular reporting on projects to the Director.


Ideally you will be tertiary qualified and/or have equivalent experience and will bring extensive experience in people and project management.  You will have a track record in design development and management, project management and delivery, contracts management and procurement.  You will be commercially savvy and have extensive experience in programming and budget management.  Critically, you will bring deep people management skills and experience in driving performance improvement.  Strong communication skills and experience in appropriate software systems are essential.
