Maternal and Child Health Nurse Relievers

We are seeking qualified Maternal and Child Health (MCH) nurses wishing to join our pool of casual relieving staff to resource backfill requirements in the Universal MCH Programs. The MCH nurse role sits within the Early Year’s services at Council and includes provision of KAS visits, facilitating first parent groups, outreach work as required, integrated service collaboration, flexible activities to target vulnerability, and participation in early year’s initiatives.

To be successful in this role you will have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with families, colleagues, welfare and early year’s professionals. You are required to have current registration with AHPRA as a registered nurse and a registered midwife, and a recognised post graduate Maternal and Child Health qualification for employment in Victoria. You need a current Victorian driver’s licence, Working With Children and police check.

A casual position in the MCH team will involve working from any of the six MCH integrated sites across the City of Ballarat, which are predominantly co-located early learning hubs. The days of work are Monday-Friday to match resourcing requirements to meet the demands of an expanding MCH program.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Appropriate qualification and current registration as per position description.
  • Demonstrated practice based on respect for the values and rights of clients, self and colleagues.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with families, colleagues and other professionals.
  • Demonstrated skills in developmental assessment of children.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage own workload.
  • Demonstrated commitment to networking and liaison with key community organisations and Government departments.
  • Demonstrated capacity to provide an effective Maternal and Child Health service according to Council and State Government guidelines, policies, and accepted nursing practice standards.
