Purpose of the Position

To safely and efficiently operate Council’s truck and dog combination including delivering gravel, plant and equipment loads both within the Shire and outside the Shire when required. The job holder will also carry out regular operator maintenance, pre-start checks and risk assessments, while complying with Chain of Responsibility requirements and Council practice and procedure. There will be occasions when out of hours work may be required in order to meet operational requirements.


Essential Requirements

  • Commitment to Council’s Mission, Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Understanding of work health and safety (WHS) in the workplace and commitment to a positive contribution to WHS in the workplace and compliance with Council and legislative requirements.
  • Class HC driver’s licence
  • Minimum two years experience operating truck and dog in a variety of work situations and environments
  • Demonstrated ability to safely and competently restrain loads
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out operator maintenance on trucks
  • Good communication skills to allow effective team work and interaction with contractors and public where required and completion of documents including but not limited to: log books, time sheets, risk assessments.
  • Ability to complete required documentation, including but not limited to risk assessments, pre-start checks, timesheets, log books, work health and safety forms.
  • Current Traffic Controller / Stop Slow ticket (blue card).

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience operating truck and dog in quarries and road maintenance and construction sites  
  • Current Apply Traffic Control Plans ticket (yellow card) 
  • Certificate III in Civil Construction. 
  • Bushfire Awareness training or willingness to undertake.
