About the Role

The Strategic Planning Lead manages a highly skilled team working and collaborating across Council and the community to develop and deliver strategies, plans and policies that position, advance and achieve Council's land use planning, environmental, social and economic goals and objectives in working towards meeting current and future needs of the community.


Duties

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of, and provide specialist advice to the Executive Manager, CEO, Council and Executive team, on key land use planning and related strategies, plans and policies that underpin the successful and integrated delivery of Council's goals and objectives.
  • Provide effective and successful management and guidance from inception to delivery of strategic projects, including ensuring effective consultation and engagement with stakeholders is undertaken and projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Contribute to and lead strategic initiatives and projects and prepare briefing papers and reports for the Executive Manager that support effective dialogue, decision-making and collaborative outcomes.


Skills and experience

  • Recognised tertiary qualification in Town Planning, Urban Design, Public Policy or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, manage and empower teams working to develop and implement Council strategies, plans and policies that meet the needs of Council and the community.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, policy development and project management and an understanding of best practice and future-focused urban planning.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills, presentation skills and excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to present to small and large groups.
