About The Role

An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and highly motivated Designer - Capital Works to join the Infrastructure Planning, Design and Delivery Branch at Noosa Council.

The successful applicant will prepare design documentation for Council’s capital works projects.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare designs, estimates and specifications for road, intersection, drainage and urban design projects.
  • Review and check designs for technical accuracy, compliance with standards and Council’s corporate objective in terms or urban design look and feel. 
  • Thoroughly investigate, consult, consider alternatives and recommend solutions for projects and customer enquiries in a local government context. 
  • Liaise with relevant staff, Councillors, external agencies, key stakeholders and the public in the preparation of projects. 
  • Exercise significant initiative and judgement in the selection and application of appropriate principles and techniques for projects. 
  • Prepare detailed briefs for projects or aspects of projects including but not limited to survey, geotechnical, structural and design requirements. 
  • In a team environment provide expert advice and assistance to other officers in relation to technical and professional skills. 
  • Such other duties that may arise from time to time that fall within the scope of the position. 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Comprehensive knowledge with proven experience in rural and urban road design. 
  • Competent knowledge and proven experience in rural and urban drainage design and associated programs.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and demonstrated experience in the AutoCAD and 12d Model Civil design packages. 
  • Demonstrated computer skills including the Microsoft suite of programs. 
  • Well-developed communication skills with proven ability in advocacy, consultation, building effective relationships, negotiation and conflict resolution. 
  • Proven organisational and time management skills to meet conflicting work priorities, meeting goals and objectives with a commitment to thoroughness, accuracy and professionalism. 
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve complex technical issues and develop effective and practical solutions.
  • Experience in the following would also be highly regarded:
    • Understanding of State and Federal environmental legislation. 
    • Traffic engineering and or transport planning. 
    • Road safety, crime prevention through environmental design and disability access design. 
    • Urban design, streetscape projects and or master/concept planning. 
Essential Qualifications, Training and Licences 
  • Qualifications in Civil Engineering Design (Associate Diploma in Civil Engineering or equivalent).
  • Driver’s Licence – “C” class.
