Do you have extensive accounting experience and are you looking to lead a team?


An exciting leadership opportunity has arisen to work for the Local Government as Team Leader Financial Processes within the Finance Unit.


The primary purpose of this role is to provide direction, leadership and accountability to the Financial Processes team. You will manage a team of up to 6.


Tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Supervise, lead and manage the Financial Processes team in the delivery of an efficient and effective accounting function for Council.
  • Allocate and supervise workloads to ensure the systematic function of the section at council adopted standards.
  • Develop, mentor, coach and empower staff to build a high -performance team culture.
  • Ensure all service level agreements and customer obligations are met by the team.
  • Motivate staff to achieve section outcomes; create, implement and monitor individual work plans for staff.
  • Responsible for the ongoing performance measurement and ensuring performance meets agreed standards.
  • Drive system improvements within the team, to support the delivery of effective, high quality, targeted and best value services.
  • Ensure the financial processes comply with statutory obligations and ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards.
  • Ensure all statutory financial and reporting requirements are met.
  • Ensure Council meets all its taxation obligations including required substantiation, reporting, payment and administration.
  • Liaise with all sections of the Finance unit to ensure the Council's provided with an efficient and effective financial framework.
  • Lead the team to ensure any service level agreements and customer obligations are met in relation to financial transaction processing.
  • Responsible for ensuring all reconciliations related to the financial processing section are completed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all grants are managed, accounted for, reconciled, reported and acquitted.
  • Build strong working relationships based on credibility and open communication.
  • Undertake other duties as requested by the Coordinator Financial Operations and/or Manager Finance.


The successful applicant will possess:

  • Degree qualifications in accounting, business, commerce or a related field and/or extensive relevant experience in financial transaction processing.
  • Membership of a recognised professional accounting organisation (e.g. CPA or CA) which requires degree plus professional certification studies
  • Current NSW Drivers Licence
  • Extensive knowledge and experience working with an accounting enterprise system to manage and oversee the financial system.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake the functions and responsibilities identified in this role
  • Proven experience in leading, motivating and managing staff
  • Commitment to customer service
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to provide a safe working environment for staff and visitors
  • Negotiating and influencing others
  • Effective complaints handling skills and experience
  • Excellent communication and problem solving skills
  • Exercising judgment, control and leadership in difficult and confronting situations
  • Working within specified time requirements
