MacDonnell Regional Council has an exciting opportunity available for a Work Health & Safety (WHS) Coordinator.


About the role

As the WHS Coordinator, you will provide expert assistance and support to Council whilst building and managing the Council's WHS systems, programs and procedures. You will also act as the Return to Work (RTW) Coordinator and need a level of experience and passion for this area.


The position has a reporting line of a WHS Officer. The WHS Coordinator will report to Manager Human Resources and will be accountable for:

  • Management of Workers Compensation claims in accordance with relevant legislation including claims processing and associated administration
  • Assisting Manager HR in the development and implementation of WHS policies, programs and related activities
  • Various individual and team project work across the WHS space


About you

You will have at least five years' experience in a WHS role with a Diploma in Work, Health & Safety. You will have proven organisational and time management skills and a track record in maintaining confidentiality and a high level of professional ethics. You will possess highly effective interpersonal, facilitation and problem solving skills.


In addition to a strong interest in working with Indigenous people on their country, it is also essential that you have an appreciation of contemporary Aboriginal issues, especially in relation to cultural and socio-economic challenges in remote central Australia. Any prior experience working with Aboriginal people in remote areas will be highly regarded.
