Federation Council is seeking the services of a part-time Community Projects and Events Officer (0.8) to join our dynamic Community Development Team.


We are currently looking for a highly organised, people focused events professional to come and join our team to coordinate and deliver Council's annual program of community and civic events, as well as assess and coordinate applications from community organisations who wish to host events in our local government area.


Ideally, you will have previous experience in a community or events role, with a sound understanding and ability to apply risk management principles, excellent interpersonal skills for working with a broad range of stakeholders and the ability to juggle a variety of projects and tasks at once.


After hours and weekend work will be required due to the nature of the position.


The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government State Award and Council’s policies and conditions of employment.  The wages will be within the range of $932.56 to 1029.36 per week – 28hrs, which is pro rata due to part time hours. The range will depend upon experience and qualifications.

Selection Criteria – Selection criteria represents the key qualifications, training, abilities, knowledge, personal attributes, skills and experience a person must have in order to do the job effectively. You must meet the selection criteria in order to be considered for a position and you do this by addressing each criteria point in writing.  Generally 50-100+ word answers are sufficient for each criteria, give examples of what you have done in previous employment that relates to the criteria.  


The 11 key Selection Criteria to be addressed are as follows:

Qualifications and Experience

1. At least two to three years’ experience in event management with a sound understanding and ability to apply risk management principles;

2. Tertiary qualifications in Marketing, Communications, Arts, Events Management, Community or Economic Development or related discipline would be advantageous;

Specialist Knowledge and Skill

3. Broad knowledge of community event and project development and management;

4. Experience in delivering operational components of outdoor events, including logistics, risk management, and managing a range of sub-contractors;

5. Demonstrated understanding of or experience with marketing, sponsorship and PR/media requirements within events;

6. High level of computer literacy and proficiency including use of Microsoft Office Suite and Desktop publishing, Email systems, Internet searching and Records Management systems such as Content Manager;

Authority and Accountability

7. Ability to contribute to the effective implementation of continuous improvement in the work area and achievement of quality outcomes;

Judgement and Problem Solving

8. Ability to set objectives and strategies for delivering events and programs that are feasible and viable.

Interpersonal Skills

9. Demonstrated understanding of the community and proven ability to meet expectations of stakeholders;

Management Skills 

10. Experience managing small projects including budgets and risk management;

11. Proven time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure, and be well organised.
