About You

  • You will work effectively with Council's building certifiers contributing to team goals 
  • You will promote a positive image for Council with external customers and ratepayers
  • You have the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • You will prepare and issue Orders and Notices in regards to non-compliance
  • You can multi skill across other Council work areas when required


The primary purpose of the role is to provide a high level of professionalism administering Council's development and associated compliance and enforcement functions to ensure that land use and activities within the Richmond Valley community meet the statutory requirements of relevant legislation and Council's planning documentation and policies with regard to the regulatory control of environment, health, planning and building.


We are seeking someone who has:

  • Degree, Diploma, Associate Diploma or other suitable qualification in building surveying, planning, environmental health compliance enforcement or related disciplines such as E1 Swimming Pool Certification and relevant Certificate IV in Local Government.
  • Competent numeracy and literacy skills to enable understanding and application of safety and work related procedures
  • Demonstrated customer service skills and exceptional interpersonal communication skills (oral/written) to deal with all stakeholders
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Building Code of Australia, the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act and Regulation, Protection of the Environment Operations Act and Regulation, Local Government Act and Regulation and other associated Codes and Policies and their interpretation and application in a working environment
  • Demonstrated capacity to work autonomously with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a tam environment and provide support and leadership to colleagues in the section
  • Construction Induction Certificate (WHS White Card)
  • Current Class C Driver Licence
  • Demonstrated conduct aligned with Council’s corporate behaviours supporting our values


NOTE:
 As the activities of this position could involve exposure to Hepatitis A and B or Q Fever, the employee will be 
vaccinated against these hazards or required to provide proof of immunity against these diseases.


Full time:
19 day month


Salary:
Range from $63,570 to $82,102 pa + 9.5% super
