We seek a Manager for the Strategy and Policy Team or a Policy Advisor who is looking to progress their career in this field. You will be responsible for overseeing the effective coordination of planning and policy, and providing strategic advice to the Chief Executive and Council.


You will take charge of the corporate planning for the Invercargill City Council. This will include coordinating of the preparation of the Invercargill Long Term Plan, the Annual Plan, and the Annual Report. You will also coordinate and manage Policies and Bylaws through the consultation and maintenance of the policies and bylaws registers.


To be successful in this challenging and diverse role, you will ideally have the following:

  • Tertiary qualification in planning, strategic management, law or related disciplines
  • Experience in a strategic policy related field
  • Demonstrated experience managing staff including recruitment and management of performance
  • Thorough working knowledge of the law relating to Local Government
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, including public presentation and report writing
  • We will consider applications from policy advisors with less experience looking to advance their careers
