The role of Ranger is responsible for providing the local community with an effective regulatory service that meets statutory obligations and reduces adverse impacts on the local area by enforcing applicable legislation and Council’s policies. 


You will be required to work a 7 day roster involving shifts within the hours of 6am and 6pm, including some weekends. A vehicle is provided for official duties as a Tool of the Trade with Commuter use only.


Our ideal candidate will have a compliance, legislation and enforcement background. You will be able to work autonomously and as part of a team with the ability to engage with the public and be community minded and possess strong communication skills both written and verbal. You will have a strong work ethic, be able to work both autonomously and as part of a dynamic team and have a strong focus on customer expectations whilst promoting Council values.


Key activities of this role include:

  • Undertake patrols of Council’s beaches, reserves and other public spaces to detect offences under the Companion Animals Act 1998;
  • Gather sufficient evidence of offences under Local Government Act, 1993; Companion Animals Act, 1998; Roads Act, 1993; The Australian Road Rules; Impounding Act, 1993; Protection of the Environment Operations Act, 1997 and Regulations to allow for appropriate action to be taken;
  • Patrol public places to detect, control and/or prevent obstructions or unlawful activities;
  • Respond to customer complaints.

This role provides a salary range of between $55.6k to $66.8k per annum + superannuation. Penalty rates apply for weekend work.


Applicants may be required to undertake a course of vaccinations against Hepatitis A and B and Tetanus or demonstrate their immunity.


The successful applicant will be required to undertake a Police Check before commencement of employment.
