Graduate Urban Designer

The Graduate Architect/Urban Designer will have a passion for technological advances in design software packages, micro mobility and environmental sustainable design. The Graduate will also have the opportunity to gain experience in major building capital works projects and major parks capital works projects.


About the role:

City Design’s purpose is to create places where people want to be. The focus is on life first, then spaces, then buildings. City Design work on high-end, complex and politically sensitive projects that will shape the future of the City and its community.


Tasks include but not limited to:

  • Application of rhino and grasshopper software to test city and building design interventions 
  • Application of rhino and grasshopper software for major building design, parks and public domain improvements, testing interventions to achieve more environmentally sustainable outcomes
  • Research the use of micro freight and micro movement to inform policy making
  • Research sustainable/smart technologies to tackle climate change and achieve environmentally sustainable buildings, precincts, parks and streets
  • Assist on the design and development of key projects identified by Council
  • Assist in the preparation of expression of interests, tender and general design/contract documentation
  • Assist in and prepare reports, correspondences and presentations
  • Work independently and as part of a team to support the City Design Unit
  • Assist team members and request assistance when required
  • Self-assess work to ensure output of work is timely, accurate and of a high standard
  • Perform other duties as required


Essential Criteria:

  • Recent graduate or in the final years of an Urban Design, Architecture or Landscape Architecture bachelor degree
  • Proficiency in rhino and grasshopper software
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of research methodologies and research processes
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills and verbal and written communication skills
  • Organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritise own workload and to work effectively in a team and meet deadlines while delivering high-quality outcomes
  • Ability to consult and liaise effectively with a wide range of people in a culturally diverse environment
  • Demonstrate initiative, judgement and problem solving skills
