An exciting opportunity exists for a strategic thinker with qualifications applicable to waste management to lead the waste team at the Town of Port Hedland.

This position will coordinate and support the development, implementation and review of waste and resource management strategies in Port Hedland. It will liaise with consultants, contractors and government agencies, as well as multiple teams within Council.


We are seeking an individual with extensive knowledge in waste landfill management and operations. This position offers excellent variety of work and will see you involved in:

  • Delivery and accountability for technical assignments and solution development for waste management and resource recovery projects;
  • Development and implementation of waste management strategy, planning, design and delivery;
  • Leveraging your industry knowledge and experience to develop and maintain lasting relationships built on trust and delivery;
  • Delivering projects from proposal to completion; and
  • Oversee the day-to-day management of all waste related matters and provide leadership and guidance to staff.


The successful applicant will clearly demonstrate supervisory experience leading diverse teams, with demonstrated experience in proactive compliance management. Candidates require a tertiary qualification applicable to either waste management, civil engineering, environmental engineering or compliance related discipline. A strong understanding of current waste management, resource recovery and recycling issues, market dynamics, government legislation and liaison is also required.


The successful candidate will be engaged under an initial 3 year contract, with options to extend.


Work Related Requirements

The preferred applicant will be required to undergo a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol assessment to be considered for the role, as well as possess:

  • Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a related Management discipline, or extensive demonstrated experience in the waste industry at senior levels
  • National Police Clearance
  • Current ‘C’ class drivers licence
