An exciting opportunity exists for a Horticulture Apprentice within the City of Ballarat’s Parks and Gardens unit. During the apprenticeship, you will spend time in a variety of functional areas including the Ballarat Botanical Gardens and Nursery, Arboriculture unit, City Entrances crew and Sports crew where you will learn a broad range of high quality horticultural skills.
The successful applicant will contribute to the maintenance and development of the City of Ballarat’s open space assets whilst also attending Federation University (TAFE) on a part time basis. You will be required to have well developed interpersonal skills, the ability to work as part of a team environment and have a passion for horticulture.
Key Selection Criteria
Knowledge and understanding of health and safety issues relevant to work activities and work area.
Demonstrated work history in horticulture or related area or history of full or part time study in horticulture or related area.
Successful completion of V.C.E or V.E.T. with relevant subjects (preferred).
Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
Well-developed interpersonal skills.
Organisational ability to prioritise and perform a variety of tasks.
Ability to assess work sites and follow instructions to achieve the job in the most productive and technically correct manner.
