ABOUT MORELAND

Moreland City Council is located in the inner northern suburbs of Melbourne and is one of the most populous and culturally diverse municipalities.  Located in Coburg, the Moreland City Council offices are just 8km from the CBD and are easily accessible by public transport or cycling.


ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a hands-on leader to drive the standard for good governance across the organisation. Leading the Governance, Council Business and Freedom of Information functions, you will have a wide sphere of influence and the responsibility for providing accurate and timely advice to the Council and the organisation.


This is a critical leadership position in the Governance and Civic Protocols unit and will report directly to the Unit Manager.


You will have a strong focus on developing a Governance team that anticipates the needs of the organisation in the support and advice it provides, and your success will be built on your comprehensive knowledge of governance practice (ideally in local government), and your ability to share that knowledge across the organisation.


SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM THIS ROLE

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, motivate and develop a team
  • A tertiary qualification in Governance or a related field with several years’ relevant experience or substantial experience in a governance role(s)
  • Experience in the provision of specialist advice, interpretation and application of legislation relevant to this position
  • Proactive approach and demonstrated independent thinking
  • Ability to use mediation, communication and conflict resolution skills to influence actions and outcomes
