About the Role

An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and highly motivated Management Accountant to join the Financial Services Branch at Noosa Council.


The successful applicant will provide accurate and timely financial information and advice to support the organisation with development, management and monitoring of budgets and operational activities.


Key Responsibilities 

  • Establishing in-depth knowledge of the operations of client businesses and assisting management in the development or refinement of business processes as part of organisational service reviews.
  • Provision of accounting support to the Department and Branch and the Financial Services Manager to facilitate the preparation of the annual budget and ongoing budget reviews in accordance with organisational timeframes and requirements.
  • Provision of ongoing advice on budget allocations, budget reviews, job costing and operational maintenance allocations.
  • Development and maintenance of processes to track the financial status of various operational projects. This includes the on-going review of existing processes and forward planning of branches’ future financial requirements.
  • Submission of financial reports on activities as they impact on the Corporate Plan and Council’s financial reporting processes, including the production, submission and investigation of monthly financial performance reports.
  • Ongoing ledger analysis and preparation of budget and actual journals to ensure ledger integrity.
  • Compilation and analysis of financial data for projects, reports and/or returns as requested.
  • Completion of various suspense and control account reconciliations on a monthly basis.
  • In partnership with the Financial Services Manager, undertake monthly reconciliations and associated transfers and accruals to facilitate the generation of standard reports including monthly, quarterly and annual reports to Council.
  • Maintain knowledge of Council’s financial, budgeting, cash receipting, procurement and property systems appropriate to the role and provision of advice to management to improve business outcomes.
  • Provide training to business areas in the use of financial systems and features to improve business processes.
  • Such other relevant duties as required which would generally fall within the scope of this position.


Position Requirements

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in local government finance producing financial reports in accordance with the relevant accounting standards and local government legislation.
  • Experience in applying the practical principles of cost accounting in particular cost assignment and allocation in an activity based costing environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer system applications, including integrated financial systems, databases, spreadsheets and personal application software.
  • Well-developed analytical and interpretive skills and proven ability to exercise initiative and judgement to meet business needs.
  • High-level communication and interpersonal skills as required to deal confidently with people at all levels both internally and externally.
  • Effective time management skills, including but not limited to, working independently, setting priorities, setting and meeting deadlines and organising own workloads.


Essential Qualifications, Training and Licences 

  • Degree qualifications in accounting or a relevant discipline
  • Driver’s Licence – “C” class
