Forbes Shire Council's selection process stages are outlined below:
- Short-listing. The selection panel (usually 3 members) will assess all applications against the selection criteria contained in the position description. The panel will then decide which applicants best meet the criteria and will call for interview.
- Interviewing. You will be given at least 2 days notice if you are required for an interview. The interview panel will consist of either 3 or 4 members, one of which will be the HR Facilitator, who will work with the panel to recommend the most suitable person for the position.
- Reference checks and other checks. Referee checks will be carried out on the recommended applicant/s. Positions that have been identified as child-related, will be required to undergo a Working with Children Check through the Office of Children's Guardian NSW
- Pre-employment Functional Assessment. The preferred applicant will be required to undergo a pre-employment functional assessment at Council’s expense. This will include a Functional Assessment, urine Drug and Alcohol Testing and a hearing screen
- Notification of result. The successful applicant will be verbally notified as soon as possible after the interview and will receive a written letter of offer via email and in the post. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified by email once the offer of employment has been accepted and Council has been formally notified of the acceptance.

The Supervisor Livestock Exchange will be responsible for the management of the day to day operations of the Central West Livestock Exchange (CWLE) including but not limited to animal welfare of livestock, ensuring Chain of Responsibility compliance and ensuring the management of accurate records of livestock transactions. This position will also be responsible for the supervision of all staff and general maintenance of the yards and infrastructure.
Other factors relating to this position include:
- Participate in a rotating on-call roster in accordance with the needs of the Central West Livestock Exchange
- Participation in the occasional ad-hoc, out of hours work will be required to complete the job
- A Police Clearance is required to be maintained with this position and held current every 3 years
- NSW Weapons clearance (or able to gain immediately)
Desired Skills and Experience
Essential
- Tertiary Qualified in a relevant discipline – Certificate III Agriculture
- At least 5 years’ experience in the Livestock industry.
- Demonstrable evidence of high level stakeholder engagement and management in the agricultural industry;
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of Chain of Responsibility compliance on the Saleyards industry;
- Demonstrated experience leading a team in the achievement of goals and objectives;
- Demonstrated high level communication skills and the ability to communicate with the Saleyards team, internal and external stakeholders and management;
- High level conflict resolution skills and demonstrated negotiation skills;
- Experience in the effective direction and supervision of staff and knowledge of basic human resource management practices.
- Strong track record and proficiency in all project management, risk management and WHS.
- Class C (Standard) Drivers Licence
- NSW weapons licence (or able to gain)
Experience
- Proven experience in in the livestock or agriculture industry with exposure and experience in livestock exchange operations.
- Knowledge of the local government sector or another statutory / regulatory environment is desirable;
- A working knowledge of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
- Demonstrated understanding of legislation associated statutory livestock and operational facilities management
- Tickets and accreditations to operate appropriate machinery and equipment.
