Arts & Culture Officer
PART TIME – 14 hours per week
Salary from $43.07 to $51.43 per hour + 9.5% super + $400 transport allowance pa

North Sydney Council administers the North Sydney local government area on Sydney’s picturesque lower North Shore. Our 400 employees look after 71,000 residents spread across 10 square kilometres of land on the foreshores of Sydney Harbour providing spectacular harbour views, beautiful parklands, and a bustling CBD. An exciting opportunity exists to assist the Team Leader Arts and Culture in the delivery of a diverse range of community art projects, programs and exhibitions which enrich the community life of the North Sydney Local Government area. A significant part of the role is to ensure key issues are addressed through North Sydney’s Arts & Cultural Strategic Plan and to develop and deliver a program that reflects the community identity and needs in the local area, which aims to foster community initiation of, and participation in, community arts projects and activities.
The position is based at the Council Chambers, located in a beautiful park setting, close to public transport, bicycle routes and recreational facilities.
The 14 hours are to be worked over Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Additional days may be required from time to time to assist with the needs of the department.
Selection Criteria
Essential
- Tertiary qualifications in fine arts, arts administration or equivalent experience in a community arts environment
- Experience in developing and delivering contemporary arts projects and/or exhibitions
- Experience in initiating and implementing community arts projects with youth and/or culturally diverse sector
- Demonstrated experience in project coordination
- Proven ability to work co-operatively in a team environment
- High level written communication skills
- Computer literacy skills including the capacity to effectively use Microsoft desktop software, including Word and Excel
- Demonstrated experience in working across social media platforms
- Demonstrated commitment to customer service and continuous improvement
Desirable
- Current NSW Driver’s Licence
- Experience in Local Government
- Knowledge of community development principles
- Knowledge of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Cultural Protocols
