In the role of Senior Engineer (Active Transport), you will manage the delivery of key elements of the Active Transport program and provide specialist technical expertise and advice to traffic engineering and road safety projects and to other professional and technical staff to ensure successful delivery of the program within time, quality, cost and stakeholder expectations.

A great opportunity has arisen for a person experienced in Active Transport planning, design or engineering to join our busy Vulnerable road user team as Senior Engineer (Active Transport). “Active transport” encompasses the access and mobility needs of people walking, people riding bicycles, people using mobility devices, people using wheeled recreational devices and people with a disability.

You will possess Professional Engineering, or Planning qualifications from a recognised tertiary institution, or qualifications, which in the opinion of the Director-General of Transport and Main Roads are equivalent, including higher qualifications in Engineering or other relevant disciplines.

As part of a small team, you will be required to:

• Develop guidelines for improved performance of active transport practice that support the safe and effective operation of the Queensland road network.

• Carry out research into matters concerning active transport, traffic control devices and traffic operations in liaison with other research organisations such as the Australian Road Research Board, Austroads and other State Road Authorities. Assist with the development of standards, specifications, supplements, technical notes and guidelines.

• Contribute to the management, development and delivery quality of the Active Transport Infrastructure Program.

• Assist with the development and delivery training programs in the field of active transport for engineers, planners, managers and technologists.

• Develop strong, positive and productive relationships with TMR districts, other government agencies, local governments and other key stakeholders.

• Research, evaluate and report on the application of new trends and practices suitable for use in active transport infrastructure, traffic control devices, traffic operations and intelligent transport systems.

• Maintain the Compliant Products Register for Tactile Ground Surface Indicators (TGSI).

• Provide authoritative advice and support services to internal and external clients, including advice on technical matters appropriate for presentation to public and private bodies and in response to enquiries from the general public.

• Prepare procurement documents and assess offers for the purchase of engineering products and services.

• This role reports to the Principal Technologist (Pedestrians, Bicycles and Motorcycles).

You will have proven organisational skills and an ability to meet tight and competing deadlines whilst still producing high quality work.
