Land Management Officer



This position sits within the Operations and Infrastructure Directorate, in the Environment and Biodiversity Unit which is responsible for the delivery of land management and environmental programs and strategy across the Shire.


The successful candidate will be responsible for providing advice and support, and delivering projects and programs that enhance effective management of the natural environment of Nillumbik.  Specifically,

  • Planning and implementation of Council initiatives that promote and support sustainable and responsible land management practices across the Shire.
  • Providing land management advice and education to the community.
  • Providing technical advice to support planning enforcement issues and other areas as required.
  • Updating evidence of Nillumbik’s environmental assets and pests to enhance strategic decision making.
  • Assisting the Coordinator Environment in developing and implementing projects, programs and policy to continuously improve service delivery.
  • Working as an integral member of the Environment Department.

 To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A recognised tertiary qualification in natural resource management or associated discipline.
  • An excellent understanding of sustainable land and waterways management as they relate to the Nillumbik environment incorporating agricultural, hobby farm and nature conservation land uses.
  • Ability to develop, deliver and evaluate land management and environmental programs and projects including incentive or grant programs.
  • Demonstrated strong ability in the provision of technical advice in land management and in the design and delivery of education programs and activities.
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in liaising with, assisting and negotiating with landowners and community groups.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven and highly developed computer literacy skills.
  • A valid Victorian driver’s licence and willingness to drive own car after hours if required.


This is a permanent full-time Band 6 position.
