We are interested in hearing from Aboriginal Australians that are looking for an opportunity to increase awareness about Aboriginal heritage for both employees and the community.
This position will provide a wide range of experiences and opportunities in managing natural areas and Aboriginal heritage in an urban environment. The Natural Areas Aboriginal Heritage Officer will work within the Open Space Assets Team to:
Provide support and advice into the development and implementation of an Aboriginal Cultural Heritage framework;
Provide technical advice on natural areas and Aboriginal heritage in accordance with Delivery and Operational plans and Council policies;
Respond to customer requests related to natural areas and Aboriginal heritage;
Provide advice for the management of Aboriginal sites on Council managed land;
Register new Aboriginal sites and update the Aboriginal Heritage Management System (AHIMS);
Undertake Aboriginal heritage site awareness training for employees and contractors;
Develop signage, fact sheets and web based information on natural areas and Aboriginal heritage;
Assist with the management of open space, bushland and natural areas;
Promote Aboriginal heritage to be celebrated as part of 2020 events;
Engage with the Aboriginal community including Local Aboriginal Land Councils; and
Support the SSC Aboriginal Advisory Committee.
