The Opportunity

This position will see you planning for the delivery of community facilities to meet the current and futures needs of the municipality based on robust evidence and a best practice approach. Positioned within our Community Infrastructure department and reporting directly to the Coordinator Research and Facilities Planning, your responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking social, spatial and infrastructure research and data analysis to inform integrated service and infrastructure planning
  • Supporting the implementation of the MV2040: Community Facilities Action Plan
  • Playing an ongoing role in major community hub projects and working with a range of internal and external stakeholders in the planning of new community infrastructure
  • Monitoring, evaluating and reviewing infrastructure and demographic data and information to influence decision making and build Council’s evidence base
  • Applying technical skills in qualitative and quantitative research and analysis, including needs assessments, feasibility assessments and cost-benefit analysis to help solve complex social infrastructure problems


About You

The successful candidate will be a self-starter with an enthusiasm for using research and analysis to solving complex problems. Specifically, the successful candidate will have a mix of:

  • Degree or post graduate qualification in social research, urban planning, economics, commerce or a related field supported by relevant practical work experience
  • Technical expertise and experience in research methodologies, including demographic, economic and spatial data analysis, and building a comprehensive evidence base to inform decisions
  • Strong interpersonal skills that includes the ability to manage relationships with a range of stakeholders, as well as working within collaborative multi-disciplinary teams
  • Ability to apply a problem solving and continuous improvement approach to all elements of the role
