Local Laws Officer (Ranger)
Macedon Ranges Shire Council is offering a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Local Laws Officer who enjoys contact with the community, working with animals, and being part of a dynamic team.
This role will contribute to the safety and amenity of the municipality through the provision of information, assistance and advice to the community, and through the enforcement of Acts, Regulations and Local Laws. As a Local Laws Officer, you will be responsible for investigating complaints, undertaking inspections, impounding animals, issuing infringements, preparing materials for briefs of evidence and presenting evidence in court. Sound knowledge of the Local Government Act 1989, Road Safety Act 1986, Road Safety Rules 2009, Domestic Animals Act 1994, Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1986, Impounding of Livestock Act 1994 and all other Acts, Regulations and Local Laws relevant to the position is required.
The successful candidate will be passionate about community safety, be highly organised, and have excellent customer service skills with an ability to educate and gain the cooperation and assistance from citizens, motorists, business operators and other stakeholders in order to achieve the unit’s objectives.
A Certificate IV level qualification in Statutory Compliance or Animal Control, or experience in a similar role is essential. You will be required to hold the relevant qualifications and be willing to undergo the pre-employment checks as outlined in the position description. In addition, on a rotational basis, you will participate in the after-hours roster responding to emergencies.
