Work from home – vacancies across the state for family day care educators

Family day care is a flexible and rewarding career option for people interested in creating home-based nurturing experiences for children in all South Australian communities. The Department for Education is currently looking to increase our network of family day care educators across metropolitan and regional areas.

As someone who enjoys working with children, you can be your own boss, work from your own home and choose the hours that suit you.

As a family day care educator, you will be registered with our family day care scheme and become part of a network of professional educators. We will support you every step of the way to help you deliver high-quality early childhood care for children and their families in your local area. We will help you with training, establishing your own business and offer ongoing support.

Educators must have a minimum of Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care. Whether you have the required experience and qualifications or you are willing to undertake the training, we would like to hear from you.

Essential criteria to be successful in this role

  • You must be at least 18 years of age.
  • You must have a passion and desire to work with and care for children from birth to 12 years.
  • You need to be skilled at creating a welcoming environment in your home, conducive to the health, safety, development, learning and care of children and the ability to identify health and safety issues pertaining to the home environment.
  • You must demonstrate well developed communication and interpersonal skills and be competent communicating, reading and writing in English.
  • You will need to document each child’s learning, in line with the National Quality Framework and National Education and Care Services Regulations.
  • You need an understanding of the Early Years Learning Framework and Framework for School Aged Care.
  • You must have a registered Australian Business Number (ABN).
  • You must be interested in running your own business, including keeping records of income and expenditure.
  • You must meet the compliance and accountability requirements specified by Australian and state government laws.
  • You need to have computer and internet access
  • You are required to participate in professional development and scheme activities.

To qualify to be an FDC Educator your require

  • Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care
  • Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority approved qualifications in first aid, cardio pulmonary resuscitation, asthma management and emergency anaphylaxis management
  • Child-related employment screening (this will also be provided for each adult aged 18 and over residing in the premises)
  • Responding to Abuse and Neglect – Education and Care training
  • Medical clearance
  • Public liability insurance.
