Principal Planner



Council is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Principal Planner working from either their Tumut or Tumbarumba office.  Working with the Division Manager Environment and Planning, this position will be responsible for Planning Services for Council as well as managing a team of Building Surveyors and the Development Process. 


A key component of this position is the ability to lead a team of staff. This is through both example and encouragement. The role will require managing the team to engage in a variety of improvement programs and to adopt and demonstrate the values and beliefs of Snowy Valleys Council. 


In this role you will be required to:

  1. Develop Strategic, Urban and Rural Land Use Plans.
  2. Successful implementation of a strategic land use planning program for the Snowy Valleys Local Government area and accountability for approved initiatives.
  3. Coordinate the ongoing review of internal planning procedures in response to planning reform and Council Decisions.
  4. Attend and participate in public information forums relating to planning strategies.
  5. Issue Planning Certificates under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act.
  6. Preparation and review of the Local Environmental Plan, Development Control Plan, Guidelines and Policies under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act.
  7. Identify opportunities, plan and coordinate strategic town planning at regional level.
  8. Provide professional accurate and timely advice and reports to the public and Council.
  9. Guiding the team to meet the relevant planning objectives of Council's Operational Program.
  10. Liaise with Council's Heritage Advisor regarding heritage projects.
  11. Operate as an effective Team Member.
  12. Demonstrate positive cultural behaviours and commit to applying Snowy Valleys Council's values, policies and procedures at all times.

SALARY

Salary will be paid in accordance with the Snowy Valleys Council Salary System Grade 13 ranging from $3340.00 - 3759.00 per fortnight (gross) dependent on skills, experience and qualifications held plus 9.5% superannuation, relocation assistance and salary sacrifice opportunities (remote area classification).
