About the opportunity

Council has a rapidly expanding Open Space Maintenance Section with numerous recreational facilities including aquatic water features and slash pad playgrounds at 2 of our high profile open space areas, Blacktown Showground and Nurragingy Reserve. We are looking for highly motivated and reliable individual with the knowledge and practical experience to maintain these aquatic water features, splash pad playgrounds and public parks & reserves facilities.


This is a permanent full time position responsible for the maintenance of our splash pads and aquatic water features, ensuring the water quality with regulatory requirements. You will also ensure that associated park facilities are maintained in a clean, safe manner, and that all hazards are reported and areas made safe. 


Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Extensive experience in commercial pool maintenance and pool filtration systems and secondary sanitation requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in maintaining water quality balance of a public aquatic system and understanding of health legislation/regulation in programming such works
  • Experience in maintenance of clean, safe public open space areas and other related facilities
  • Computer skills and ability to record and maintain accurate maintenance records
  • Solid working knowledge of plumbing and pumping systems for landscaping purposes
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work a spread of hours and willingness to attended to splash pad breakdowns outside agreed spread of hours
  • Class C Driver's Licence.


Desirable:

  • Formal qualification in the maintenance of commercial swimming pools
  • Handling Hazardous Chemical qualifications
  • Confined Space certificate.


Remuneration & Benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

  • A competitive salary range of $1,119.90 - $1,254.30 (Grade 7) per week will be offered based on qualifications and experience
  • This position attracts penalty rates for weekend work
  • 38 hour working week
  • Rostered day off (RDO) each fortnight
  • Employee benefits such as leave entitlements, 9.5% employer superannuation contribution payable to the Local Government Superannuation Scheme, Fitness Passport and gym membership discounts, and social clubs.
