The Conservation Team develops and implements the Urban Ecology Plan and its related operational plans to enhance the biodiversity of Moonee Valley’s natural environment. The team delivers programs to manage and enhance biodiversity, land and species, and provide our community with opportunities to connect to nature.


The Opportunity

This position will see you responsible for the development and implementation of programs and activities for environmental education, natural asset protection and sustainability of the municipality’s natural assets.


Reporting directly to the Conservation Officer and assisting with the supervision of contractors, consultants and volunteers, you will be accountable for the following:

  • Leading of community events and education programs that support and enhance the Urban Ecology Plan aims;
  • Managing positive relationships between Council officers, local environmental friends groups and other organisations;
  • Developing an annual works program and MOU with environmental friends groups;
  • Leading of effective communication strategies and resources to engage the community and promote council’s conversation programs including; media releases, newsletters, digital communications etc.; and
  • Building relationships with community members and groups, responding to resident queries and providing information on conservation issues and advise on community grants.


About You

To be successful for this position, you will ideally possess the following:

  • Tertiary qualification in Conservation and Land Management, or similar with some relevant working experience;
  • Qualification in Community Engagement or Education is desirable;
  • Demonstrated understanding of the natural environment that occurs in Moonee Valley;
  • Experience in the supervision of community groups and volunteers with an environmental focus;
  • Experience in the development and delivery of education and behaviour change programs; preferably within the environmental sector or open space management ; and
  • Current Victorian Driver’s Licence.
