How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne…


Reporting into the Procurement Manager, the principle purpose of the Senior Commercial Analyst is to develop and maintain a financial model for verifying and analysing Council’s expenditure on critical services under an Activity-Based Costing methodology (ABC). This will involve identifying the main components of the service contract, including resources, resource drivers, activity identification, activity cost drivers and cost objectives. 


You will be instrumental in supporting the strategic objectives for achieving a low waste future for Melbourne. This will include increase resource recovery, reduce waste to landfill, reduce greenhouse emissions from waste, improve local amenity, identify and implement innovative solutions and increase the efficiency in the transportation of waste.     


To be successful in this role, you will be an inquisitive individual with high level analytical and problem-solving skills. You will be a strong team player with a clear focus on delivering results for the organisation.  Stakeholder management and project delivery are significant responsibilities of this role. This is a diverse role whereby you will be required to analyse issues, situations, problem solve and develop innovative solutions.  You will ideally have previous experience in a similar role within a complex business.

  • Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values – accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence
  • Experience developing a complex financial models to identify and improve cost efficiencies and introduce continuous improvement outcomes will be considered an advantage
  • Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline, industry qualifications and significant experience working in delivering change management program
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with particular emphasis in the areas of influencing, conflict resolution and assertiveness in order to manage resistance to change and ensure successful adoption of new processes and systems
  • Proven experience in building relationships and managing stakeholders effectively
  • Demonstrated skills in developing effective communications across multiple levels of stakeholders
  • Proven ability to co-ordinate requirements and deliver to tight deadlines
  • Highly developed resilience, persisting in the pursuit of goals despite obstacles and setbacks.
