Emergency Management Lead



We are seeking a dynamic leader and subject matter expert to drive the planning, implementation and review of Nillumbik Shire Council’s emergency management and fire management responsibilities.

This high profile position will provide strategic and operational leadership and management to support and advance planning and emergency preparedness, response and recovery across the Shire.

About the role:
Working to continually develop and maintain a partnership approach to emergency management, the successful candidate will build relationships at all levels within the organisation, the community and with external agencies.

Key responsibilities will include;
  • Delivering a high functioning Emergency Management service which meets Council’s obligations to the community.
  • Leading the Unit to actively engage and consult with our community and facilitate community input to the decision making process.
  • Ensuring the Unit is managed in accordance with, and all programs and services delivered, adhere to relevant Acts, Regulations and Council policies and procedures.

To be successful in this role you will be degree qualified and/or have substantial experience in Emergency Management leadership positions. Your thorough knowledge of legislation, policies and contemporary theories pertaining to emergency management and fire prevention will be complemented by your experience in successful community consultation. You’ll also have:

  • Extensive experience and knowledge of best practice in strategic and operational elements of Emergency Management.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing the complex issues required to coordinate municipal emergency management and internal emergency management procedures.
  • The ability to build Council’s capacity to effectively respond to emergencies through the delivery of strategic training and awareness raising programs. 


This is a permanent full-time Band 8 position, with an attractive remuneration package.
