The Opportunity

This role will see you working within the passionate and dynamic Youth Development team, contributing to the engagement and participation of young people 12-25 years old who live, work or study within the Moonee Valley municipality. You will focus on the development, implementation and evaluation of youth leadership, student leadership and civic participation initiatives.


Reporting into the Team Leader Youth Participation and Planning your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Developing and implementing a program framework for youth participation in Moonee Valley across all ages and neighbourhoods
  • Training and supporting young people to build on their civic participation and leadership skills
  • Facilitating diverse youth participation and leadership groups across the municipality
  • Ensuring youth participation programs align with MV2040 Strategy themes and strategic directions
  • Maintaining strong internal and community stakeholder relationships
  • Promoting youth participation opportunities to young people, schools and the community
  • Contributing to the development of policy, service models and operational frameworks for the delivery of Council’s youth leadership and youth voice programs


About You

In order to be successful for this position, you will possess the following:

  • Degree qualifications in Youth Work, Social Work, Social Sciences or Community Development and/or demonstrated relevant experience working with young people using a community development approach
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating groups of young people, youth participation and community development frameworks
  • Knowledge of latest student voice and youth participation models and trends, with experience working collaboratively with young people
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a wide-range of audiences from diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, display initiative and creativity
  • Experience developing and implementing youth led programs and events, with highly developed organisational and promotional skills and the ability to balance multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to work after hours and on weekends to meet the needs of young people accessing the service when necessary
  • A current Australian Drivers Licence, with access to a comprehensively insured private vehicle for work use at times when fleet cars aren’t available
  • A current Working with Children Check
