DFES’ Radio Communications is a dynamic, innovative and fast paced team that values diversity and development. It is responsible for design, delivery and support for the Department’s mission critical communications requirements.

 

We’re looking for:

An experienced radio communications technical officer/technician to join our busy team. You will be working across exciting and varied projects with an emphasis on providing specialist technical advice and support for complex radio communications systems and networks, as well as investigating issues and diagnosing and repairing faults. 

 

The successful candidate will work closely with our design and delivery coordinators to deliver customer focused strategic projects and service improvements. You will proactively engage with stakeholders to understand their requirements and design, develop and implement solutions to resolve problems. You will maintain an up to date knowledge of relevant radio communications industry standards, trends and practices, using your initiative to identify and implement improvements to enhance service delivery.  

 

Our ideal candidate is someone with experience in a similar role, who is self-sufficient and shows strong initiative. You’ll have the ability to cope with multiple projects simultaneously and be able to prioritise and deliver outcomes to tight deadlines. You will need to be a problem solver with the ability to translate complex technical information to communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders, including people from a non-technical background.

 

We’re looking for someone who can:

  • Demonstrate extensive experience in the installation, diagnosis and repair of radio equipment, including VHF, UHF, HF land mobile radio communication systems and digital, internet-protocol based radio communication systems and networks.
  • Apply curiosity and use their initiative to continuously improve radio services.
  • Manage and coordinate projects, including supervising other team members.
  • Build and sustain productive relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate passion for their career and work under pressure to meet deadlines.

 

The successful candidate will be:

  •  Proficient in the installation, diagnosis and repair of radio equipment, including VHF, UHF, HF land mobile radio communication systems and digital, internet-protocol based radio communication systems and networks.
  • Able to work under their own supervision and supervise other team members.
  • An excellent communicator with the ability to translate technical information to a non-technical audience.
  • A positive team-player with high attention to detail.
  • A proactive, self-starter – committed to achieving deliverables.
  • Innovative and a problem-solver.
  • Able to meet tight deadlines and be able to prioritise and multitask.

 

It’s desired, but not essential that applicants have:

  •  A current ACMA Open Cabler Registration.
  • A Worksafe Licence to Perform High Risk Work.
  • ITIL Foundation for Service Management certification (v3 preferred).

Special Conditions

  • Employees in this position are required to participate in a 24/7 on call roster.
  • Employees in this position will be required to attend emergency incidents.
  • Employees in this position will be required to undertake intrastate travel by road or air, normally for short periods.
  • Employees in this position are required to have a current Western Australian Driver’s License (C Class minimum) which must remain valid for the duration of employment.

Eligibility to Apply

You must be an Australian Citizen or hold permanent residency to be appointed to a permanent position.  

 

You must be an Australian Citizen or hold permanent residency or hold a working visa covering the term of the contract (proof must be provided with your application) to be eligible for appointment to a fixed term contract position.
