About the role

Litigation and Dispute Resolution enjoys an extraordinary diversity of exciting, complex and challenging litigation. The cases are frequently topical, often involve public interest issues and include general civil claims, tortious claims, personal injury claims, negligence claims, crimes mental impairment, contempt of court, vexatious litigant proceedings, public interest immunity, subpoenas, judicial review and inquests, injunctions, detinue, interpleader proceedings, statutory interpretation.

The purpose of this role is to provide professional leadership and management of a team of legal practitioners within the Litigation Branch and to produce high level legal services and advice while building and maintaining strong client relationships.

About the successful applicant

Reporting the Assistant Victorian Government Solicitor you will provide a high level of legal advice and support to the Government efficiently managing complex and sensitive litigation across a broad range of matters. The successful applicant will have:

  • Proven experience in managing staff, including an ability to lead, supervise and develop a team;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with experience in developing and maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Significant experience in providing highly specialised expert and authoritative oral and/or written advice and a clear understanding of the implications and effects of decisions made on the basis of that advice; and
  • A comprehensive understanding of government and departmental structures, policies and processes.
