Australia’s most southern municipality, the Huon Valley Council, is looking for a Payroll Officer to join their Corporate Services Department.

Only 30 minutes from Hobart, you will be coordinating and processing the generation of payroll for all employees of Council. You will also be maintaining accurate personnel files for all employees, preparing reports on personnel matters as well as the purchasing and ordering of uniforms and assisting in payroll and leave enquiries.

You will have completed a relevant, tertiary level qualification and/or have extensive practical experience. Familiarity with the Workers Compensation Act, Taxation provisions and Award & Enterprise Bargaining provisions and Superannuation provisions is necessary for this role. Previous experience in the use of a Payroll system and high level computer skills are a must.

  • Completion of relevant certificate or diploma level qualification and/or relevant extensive practical experience. Or; Bachelor Degree in a relevant field
  • Familiarity with Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Act.
  • Familiarity with Taxation provisions.
  • Familiarity with Award and Enterprise Bargaining provisions.
  • Knowledge of Superannuation provisions.
  • Demonstrated use of computerised Payroll system.
  • High level computer skills using Microsoft Office suite of software.
  • Working knowledge of computerised accounting systems.
  • Strong administrative skills.
  • Knowledge of Accounting Principles.



  • Experience in Payroll Systems
  • Experience in Financial Systems
  • Experience in Records Management Systems
  • Knowledge of local government operations.
