This is an exciting opportunity to learn the varied duties and tasks of a Trainee Accountant, Financial Services. You will be participating in on the job training, which will include assisting with the financial / management accounting aspects of Council’s Finance operations.


The successful applicant will be required to satisfactorily progress through and complete an approved specialty qualification as listed in the Essential Criteria.  The Traineeship is for a maximum of 2 years or on completion of your studies, whichever is completed first.


Key activities of this role include:

  • Actively support the Financial Services Unit by providing financial and management accounting assistance to Council’s Financial Services teams;
  • Understanding and building knowledge of Australian accounting standards and guidelines;
  • Understanding and building knowledge of Council’s various accounting and business systems/applications.

Essential Criteria:

  • Currently undertaking studies required for the completion of a Degree in Finance or Accounting or related field;
  • Demonstrated ability to participate and actively contribute in a team environment to achieve organisational goals and outcomes;
  • Ability to spot data trends and discrepancies, and make calculations;
  • Have strong numerical and analytical skills;
  • Ability to input data correctly, be detailed oriented and have good computer skills;
  • Ability to deliver assigned tasks on time to meet schedules and deadlines;
  • Capacity to prioritise, manage and organise workloads in order to meet changing priorities, corporate goals and deadlines;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with staff and the public.
