The opportunity

2018/19 is an exciting time for our Environmental Services department as we invest in new suite of programmes ranging from pest control in parks, to kauri dieback, to increasing community-led conservation action. With this significant new investment in protecting the environment funded through the Natural Environment Targeted Rate, we have a range of great opportunities to join us.

We’re looking for an experienced technical plant advisor to develop and manage biosecurity projects that achieve the effective implementation of the Natural Environment Targeted Rate and the Regional Pest Management Plan (RPMP). In this role, you’ll be responsible for protecting the investments in our parks and buffer weed programmes. You’ll engage directly with private landowners and contractors who are responsible for delivering these programmes. You’ll use your strategic and analytical skills to design and deliver plant focussed control at a landscape level and write technical and management reports and assessments.

About you

You’re a technical plant expert that’s able to develop and manage projects specialising in eradication species with the ability to innovate, investigate, trial and develop control methodologies. You’ll have a high degree of plant weed knowledge, comfortable to provide plant advice across biosecurity programmes. A natural collaborator, we will value your strong relationship building skills as you will be working with the wider council family, iwi and landowners to achieve shared outcomes. You’ll also have a qualification in a related discipline and/or equivalent work experience in ecosystem management.
