Building Compliance Officer

  • Permanent Full Time
  • Salary between $77,976 to $84,233 per annum plus 9.5% superannuation (pay rates effective 30 September 2018)

This is a new role within the unit. The Building Services team is responsible for administration of the Building Act and Regulations in the Municipality.  This comprises all statutory functions, including issuing building notices, orders and infringements, reports and consents as delegated by Council and ensuring protection of public and Council’s assets adjoining building sites and responsible for undertaking all essential service measures across the municipality. The Building Services unit provides guidance to builders, owners and occupiers to develop safe building practices.

Key Selection Criteria 

  • Qualification by the Victorian Building Authority as a Building Inspector with several years demonstrated experience in a similar role.
  • Thorough understanding and ability to apply the Building Act 1993, Building Regulations 2018, National Construction Code and associated Standards.
  • Proven performance in developing, implementing and maintaining co-operative working relationships within the team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to apply in conjunction with technical skills to achieve outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively utilise discretion and apply sound decision-making skills.
  • Ability to investigate and prepare reports and recommendations on complex building issues as a part of compliance assessments.
  • A valid driver’s licence is required due to the need to respond to emergencies across the Municipality at short notice and outside business hours as required.
