The Team Leader Signals Engineering is accountable for:

  • Managing and leading the provision of specialist technical Railway Signals engineering services to the agency and whole of government
  • Delivering departmental objectives by performing professional engineering work involving considerable independence in approach, demanding a considerable degree of originality, ingenuity, judgement, and knowledge.
  • Applying experience and knowledge in selecting, developing and applying railway signal and communication to ensure the asset management and performance of the signalling infrastructure is maintained and improvements made, utilising:
       - design and testing principles
       - applications, standards and codes of practice
       - preparing associated cost estimates, drawings, specifications and tender documentation
       - computer based systems for Railway Operations including relay interlocked and Computer Based interlocking

The successful applicant will possess relevant experience in railway signal engineering, design, testing and commissioning, and must carry out their duties in accordance with the Rail Safety National Law 2012 and in keeping with the Rail Commissioner’s Safety Management System.

A degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering/Electrical and Electronics or equivalent engineering qualifications, and experience enabling eligibility for corporate membership to Engineers Australia is essential.  Some work outside normal hours and travel necessitating overnight absences may be involved.  This role has been identified as a Rail Safety Worker and the incumbent will be subject to periodic health assessments in line with departmental policies and procedures.  

PO4 - $100,696 to $109,905 per annum
