Primary Objective: Provide land management advice to industry, government and the public that enables sustainable development.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1.         Provide technical advice to industry, developers, consultants, contractors, landholders, the public and government agencies regarding best practice land management, soil conservation and erosion and sediment control planning and implementation.

2.         Under the direction of the Regional Land Management Officer, undertake timely desktop and field assessments of development proposals and prepare formal comment regarding land management, soil conservation and erosion and sediment control.

3.         Undertake desktop assessments and field inspections and provide written and verbal advice regarding the preparation and implementation of Erosion and Sediment Control Plans.

4.         Provide advice to clients and the general public to assist with best practice land management, soil conservation and erosion and sediment control.

5.         Exercise responsibilities under the Planning Act and Soil Conservation and Land Utilisation Act and other relevant legislation in regard to land management.

 

Selection Criteria:

Essential

1.         Qualification in natural resource management, environmental science or related field and/or demonstrated experience in land and natural resource management with an emphasis on erosion and sediment control planning.

2.         Demonstrated experience in undertaking desktop and field assessment and the provision of advice regarding a wide range of development and land uses, with specific regard to land management, soil conservation and erosion and sediment control.

3.         Training in erosion and sediment control planning and implementation consistent with the International Erosion Control Association (IECA) Best Practice Booklets.

4.         Demonstrated ability to network and communicate effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds; including written, verbal and interpersonal skills.

5.         Demonstrated ability to prepare and review quality technical reports and information resources for a range of clients, including use of databases and record keeping.

6.         Demonstrated ability to operate efficiently, reliably and with minimum supervision, and to manage multiple caseloads to deliver consistent advice in a timely manner.

7.         Demonstrated experience with on-ground surveys and assessment, including use of GIS and GPS technology.

8.         Current NT drivers licence or ability to obtain.

 

Desirable

1.         Knowledge of relevant Northern Territory legislation related to planning and natural resource management.

 

Further Information: The successful applicant must be willing to undertake field work and drive a manual four-wheel drive vehicle.
