Primary Objective: The Director will provide executive leadership and guidance to the Grants Reform and Administration Branch in the initiation of systems and strategic health policy to meet the objectives of the Department of Health.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1.      Provide strong leadership and effective resource management for the Grants Reform and Administration Branch to ensure program and legislative outcomes are met.

2.      Research and develop innovative and cost effective policies, strategies and grants management programs to improve health outcomes in the Territory.

3.      Manage contracts for clinical and support services across the public health system with input from appropriate contract participants and partners.

4.      Develop and maintain effective collaborative relationships with other acute care providers and stakeholders at local and national levels.

5.      Provide timely and accurate input and advice to the Senior Director System Performance & Grants, members of the NT Health Ovesight Committee and the Minister.

6.      Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

7.      Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.

Selection Criteria:


1.      Demonstrated high level interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to take a strategic viewpoint to management and a high degree of political awareness at the internal and external level.

2.      Proven ability to manage performance in accordance with business requirements to achieve planned outcomes.

3.      Knowledge of contemporary management practices within a complex organisation, including ability to manage human, financial, technological and infrastructure resources.

4.      Proven performance managing a client-focused service and developing and sustaining productive working relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.

5.      Demonstrated understanding of and sensitivity to cross-cultural issues.

6.      Proven consultation, networking mediation and negotiation skills and the ability to initiate feedback to peers and executive managers.

7.      Knowledge of and experience in planning, delivering and evaluating service provision in a public sector context.



1.      Tertiary qualification in relevant discipline, preferably health or business management

2.      Knowledge of and experience in strategic business planning and project management
