North Sydney Council administers the North Sydney local government area on Sydney’s picturesque lower North Shore. Our 400 employees look after 71,000 residents spread across 10 square kilometres of land on the foreshores of Sydney Harbour providing spectacular harbour views, beautiful parklands, and a bustling CBD.


An opportunity currently exists for a Tree Management Officer to join our Parks & Reserves team. The Tree Management Officer is responsible for providing technical advice regarding the management of Council’s trees located in streets, parks and Council properties. The officer is to provide timely response to customer requests in Council’s document management system, by ensuring inspections are completed and work is identified and appropriately prioritised.


The position is also responsible for promoting best management of trees on Council property by ensuring they are managed in accordance with industry standards and relevant legislation.


Selection Criteria 

The ideal candidate for this role will have experience in a similar role and be able to demonstrate that they meet the following selection criteria:


Essential

  • Tertiary qualifications in Arboriculture at level 5 (AQF Level 5).
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of tree risk management and conflicts with infrastructure
  • Demonstrated experience in hazard and health assessment of trees
  • Demonstrated experience in removal and replacement programs
  • Highly developed communication skills – including negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a high pressure role with strict timeframes
  • Computer literacy including an understanding of word processing, spreadsheet, email and internet applications
  • Commitment to Council’s policies and procedures in relation to WH&S and EEO
  • NSW Class C Driver’s Licence or equivalent
  • White OHS Construction Induction Card
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to work as part of a team


Desirable

  • Demonstrated operational or supervisory experience in the delivery of arboricultural services
  • Demonstrated experience in contract management
  • Demonstrated experience and comprehensive understanding in local government tree management
