Whyalla City Council manages and maintains Childcare services, Library, Airport, Resource Recovery Centre, Cemetery, Crematorium, Infrastructure and recreational facilities including the Visitor Information Centre.

About the Role

Reporting to the Director Infrastructure, the Manager Assets leads the provision of asset management services by developing, implementing and reviewing asset management policy, processes, strategies, plans and programs in addition to providing guidance and advice for asset life cycle management that support the Council’s Vision.


The successful applicant will provide leadership in relation to service delivery, innovation and planning, to meet organisational goals, improve organisational performance and promote a professional, high-functioning and collaborative culture.


We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced asset manager who has high level knowledge and understanding of asset management, highly developed written and oral communication, problem solving, computing and organisational skills.


Essential Skills and Experience:

  • High level demonstrated knowledge in, and understanding of asset management planning and development of policy, strategy, processes and procedures.
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of asset management principles, practices and standards.
  • Considerable experience and demonstrated capability of managing and leading an outcome focused team.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and high quality report writing skills.
  • High level conceptual and analytical skills.
  • Highly developed problem solving, negotiation and decision making skills.
  • Highly developed time management and organisational skills and abilities.
  • Demonstrated computing skills and knowledge of engineering software applications and computerised asset management systems such as ROMAN II or similar and comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft suite of systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of work health and safety requirements.


Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Degree level qualification in asset management, civil engineering or other related discipline.
  • Extensive professional engineering asset management experience in a maintenance and capital intensive industry.
  • Local Government experience and knowledge of Local Government infrastructure assets and systems.
  • Understanding of the requirements of AAS27 and asset valuation and depreciation. 


A salary package in the range $126,975 - $134,640 per annum is on offer for this position, depending on qualifications and experience.
