The Whitsunday Regional Council is situated at the heart of the Great Barrier Reef.  The region encompasses the 74 tropical Whitsunday Islands, the coastal towns of Cannonvale, Airlie Beach, Jubilee Pocket, Shute Harbour and Bowen along with the rural towns of Proserpine and Collinsville.  The Whitsunday region offers a dynamic environment and is perfectly placed to live, work, play and invest.


An exciting opportunity exists within our Office of the Mayor and CEO team for a Governance Coordinator.  Reporting to the Chief Staff Officer we are looking for an experienced individual to provide and/or facilitate the provision of corporate governance advice and coordination of key related governance processes, for all areas of Council’s operations ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and the application of best Corporate Governance practices.


As the Governance Coordinator you will be responsible for

  • Support the development and coordination of relevant corporate governance functions including but not limited to policies, delegations, registers and complaints.
  • Support Council’s Values and Behaviours through leadership by example, and contribute to the development of a good governance mindset throughout the Council.


With the necessary experience and qualifications you will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high attention to detail and accuracy.  You will be an excellent team contributor and motivated to complete tasks on time.


Essential

  • Tertiary qualifications in Local Government, Law or a related Business Discipline.
  • Experience in the provision of governance advice within a public sector environment.
  • Well developed and proven ability to interpret, understand and apply legislation relevant to the operations of Queensland Local Government, with a strong understand of Local Government’s delegations and authorisations obligations and processes.
