Principal Planner

This is an exciting and rare opportunity for an experienced planning professional to join the Strategic Planning team and help shape the future of the Mackay Region. Council is seeking an experienced Town Planner to lead local area planning projects in Council's Strategic Planning team, to ensure the planning scheme, policies and planning instruments remain contemporary, encourage investment, drive innovation and achieve appropriate urban design outcomes. You will work with a multi-disciplinary team of planners and engineers to plan the future of our urban, rural and natural areas in achieving a sustainable, contemporary and vibrant Mackay Region. 

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • relevant tertiary qualification in urban planning and a minimum of eight years’ experience in strategic planning 
  • a minimum of eight years experience in the practice of land use planning 
  • proven ability in planning, and/or strategy and policy development
  • strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
