Community Development Officer

Mackay Regional Council is looking for an experienced and passionate Community Development Officer to join the Community Lifestyle team, on a permanent full-time basis. 

In this position, you will be responsible for working with Council and the local community to implement Council’s Community Development and Engagement policies. You will work with the community to identify needs and facilitate access to information, resources and support, while developing solutions that meet identified needs. As a Community Development Officer, you will encourage community participation in discussions and will participate in networks to collect information on current and emerging issues that impact upon marginalised and disadvantaged communities.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Community Development or Social Sciences or other appropriate discipline
  • Excellent research skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in addition to conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated ability to identify community needs and to develop strategies to address needs
  • Working with Children Blue Card
