Primary Objective: Provide quality, safe, culturally appropriate, patient centred care by facilitating timely and efficient primary consultations and review/recall services for all clients requiring outpatient services.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1.   Act as resource for the multidisciplinary team to achieve optimal clinical outcomes for all persons attending the Specialist Outpatient Department of Gove District Hospital.

2.   Liaise with Health Care providers and patients to facilitate efficient ambulatory care flow for East Arnhem Region patients including coordination of telehealth appointments and referral pathway.

3.   Facilitate timely access to Hospital medical information within information sharing policies, monitoring the flow of electronic receipt and dispatch of documents. This includes requests for discharge summaries, specialist letters and diagnostic results.

4.   Provide clinical nursing care where required ie Exercise Stress Tests, 24/24 Holter monitoring, ECG’s, venepuncture adult and paediatric, dressings, minor procedures, removal and application of casts, etc.

5.   Participate in the Safety and Quality Framework through innovation and clinical review processes.

6.   Follow defined service quality standards, WHS policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.


Selection Criteria:


1.     Current registration with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

2.     Demonstrated well-developed knowledge, skills and experience in the relevant area of nursing/midwifery with depth in critical clinical thinking and logistics in a changing environment and a broad range of skills.

3.     Demonstrated ability to act as a clinical resource person and role model including mentoring and preceptoring new and junior staff and students.

4.     Demonstrated contribution to the development and implementation of local activities beyond direct client care eg clinical education, assist in management, research/quality assurance activities.

5.     Demonstrated effective communication skills to influence and convince others in a mature, confident manner including maintaining productive multi-disciplinary working relationships, effectively dealing with challenging behaviours and the resolution of conflicts.

6.     Demonstrates well-developed knowledge and understanding of the social and cultural issues, influences and sensitivities that influence health care provision for clients and families.



1.     Previous experience/knowledge of remote Australian communities and/or rural hospitals.

2.     Previous experience in an ambulatory care or relevant health care setting.

3.     Graduate Certificate beyond entry to practice in relevant specialty
