Primary Objective: Deliver high quality, culturally appropriate and effective Occupational Therapy inpatient and outpatient services within Top End Health Service. Several ongoing vacancies and fixed vacancies are available on a full time or part time basis for 12 months. Selection will be made at the P1 or P2 level depending on the qualifications of the successful applicant.

 

Context Statement:

The TEHS Allied Health Division provides integrated allied health services in a variety of service settings including acute and sub-acute care, primary health care, aged care and mental health. This position will require the applicant to work within an extended hour’s service model, which may include weekends.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1.   Provide timely, clinically and culturally appropriate Occupational Therapy services under supervision within a multidisciplinary framework.

2.   Participate in professional development under guidance and research.

3.   Provide clinical supervision and/or support to students and relevant staff as appropriate.

4.   Manage a caseload within an ever changing work environment to ensure time lines and health outcomes are met.

5.   Participate in continuous quality improvement and service development activities at a local level to ensure delivery of contemporary Occupational Therapy services.

6.   Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

7.   Foster a positive workplace culture through professional work practices and role modelling behaviour in accordance with the TEHS cultural charter.

 

Selection Criteria

Essential:

1.   Relevant qualifications in Occupational Therapy that meets membership eligibility requirements of Occupational Therapy Australia, and registration for practice with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia.

2.   Ability to develop clinical Occupational Therapy skills providing a clinical service to patients and families/carers

3.   Awareness and understanding of Aboriginal culture and an ability to interact effectively with patients and families/carers of diverse cultural and social backgrounds.

4.   Developed communication, interpersonal skills, conflict management skills, with experience working in a team environment to achieve positive health outcomes.

5.   Ability to efficiently and effectively manage a patient caseload and a demonstrated a commitment to professional development.

6.   Hold a current Northern Territory (NT) driver’s licence or the ability to obtain.

 

Further Information: Department of Health has a Smoke Free Policy. Staff are not permitted to smoke anywhere on Departmental premises, facilities or vehicles, nor whilst working off-site.  Positions may be subject to pre-employment checks such as immunisation requirements, working with children clearance notice and criminal history checks. 4.   Well-developed communication, interpersonal skills, negotiation and conflict management skills, with experience working in a team environment to achieve positive health outcomes.

5.   Experience in clinical supervision of students and/or staff and a commitment to professional development.

6.   Proven ability to efficiently and effectively manage a high volume workload.

7.   Proven ability to implement and complete continuous quality improvement and service development activities.

8.   Hold a current Northern Territory (NT) driver’s licence or the ability to obtain.

 

Desirable:

1.      Post-graduate qualifications in clinical education, leadership/management or speciality practice area.
