To be successful in this role, the English Teacher will have the necessary knowledge, skills and understanding to teach English up to Year 11/12 level and with lower secondary students to improve student outcomes. Recent experience focused on lifting students’ achievements to reach national benchmarks would be advantageous.

The successful applicant will work as part of a team to enable all students to learn and study at school in a cooperative and positive environment. You will be highly organised, have excellent problem solving and analytical skills. Your well-developed communication and interpersonal skills will allow you to work collaboratively with colleagues, to improve instructional practice. As an educator, you would have proven skills in behaviour management, contemporary knowledge and a proven record of professional engagement. You will have a demonstrated commitment to inclusive education and a strategic approach in planning for improved student outcomes.

Jurien Bay DHS is located on the pristine Turquoise Coast, 200 kilometres North of Perth and 200 kilometres South of Geraldton. The town is surrounded by beautiful beaches and fabulous camping areas. The staff and community are welcoming and is a great place to live and enjoy both work and leisure time. The school caters for students from Jurien Bay, Leeman, Green Head and Cervantes and the surrounding farming districts. The school provides an educational service for a range of students from Kindergarten to Year 12.

With the schools motto being ‘Together in Learning’ there is a focus on strong community relationships. The development of relationships with staff and students is a priority with mutual respect and high behavioural expectations key components in these relationships. The school enjoys the strong support of the Parents and Citizens Association and a motivated School Board.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):

  • Professional knowledge;
  • Professional practice; and
  • Professional engagement.
