Ngaanyatjarra Council is currently seeking an IT Officer to support the IT infrastructure and systems of the Ngaanyatjarra group of companies.  This position is a 2 year full-time contract position based in Alice Springs.

About the role

The IT Officer is the first point of contact for staff accessing the IT resources and support. As such, the role is highly people focused and requires mature communication skills. NCAC staff are located across numerous sites including the Alice Springs and Perth offices, remote offices and facilities and staff housing. The majority of interaction will be via phone and email. Duties include first and second level technical support, general IT support, liaising with vendors and service providers, system configuration, equipment installation and maintenance, and technical administration. Systems supported include Windows and Apple computers, Android and iOS mobile devices, printers and scanners, LAN and WLAN networks, terrestrial and satellite internet services, desktop, remote desktop and web applications, video-conferencing, and telephone and fax lines. Technical administration includes incident tracking, external service provisioning and incident escalation (e.g. ISPs and Telcos), internal incident escalation within the team, account management, asset management, and staff orientation and training. The role involves field trips to the Ngaanyatjarra Lands as required.

Your key duties will include but not limit to:

  • Provide friendly, efficient level 1 technical support to staff in the use of computers, peripherals, routers, networks, video-conferencing, and telephones according to IT policy and established practice.
  • Provide level 1 and 2 desktop application support and general help.
  • Accurately record incidents and document outcomes using the designated incident management tools.
  • Manage IT assets within the organisation using the designated asset management tools.
  •  Administer technical service contracts such as mobile and fixed line phones, video-conferencing, terrestrial and satellite broadband.
  • Escalate and liaise with the technical support of external service providers to resolve problems and follow up to ensure problem resolution.
  • Configure, install and support desktop computers and peripherals in accordance with established practices.

  • Patience, maturity and a high standard of personal conduct including the ability to accept responsibility and work independently with limited direction.
  • Excellent organisation, analytical and problem solving skills including the ability to prioritise tasks and to resolve organisational IT problems.
  • Technical experience in a range of areas including network and desktop support.
  • Microsoft Certification - MCSA Windows or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, Exchange and Server OS. 
  • Skills and knowledge of Windows, remote access and macOS.
  • Skills and knowledge Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work with PC Hardware (maintenance, trouble-shoot, up-grades etc.).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a cross-section of people
  • Awareness of the issues that affect Aboriginal people in contemporary Australia and the ability, when required, to work with and under the direction of traditional Aboriginal people in a "dry" (no alcohol) community, where cultural norms and priorities may differ from your own.
  • Capacity for travel by road and light aircraft to remote Aboriginal communities.
  • Current class A driver's licence.


  • Skills and knowledge with regards to supporting Microsoft remote desktop.
  • Knowledge of Cisco firewalls, routers and Wi-Fi.
  • Knowledge of Apple iOS devices
  • Familiarity with the operations of an Aboriginal Community
  • Understanding structures and processes within an Indigenous organisation.


Base salary $70,000 per annum commensurate with skills and experience, plus Remote Allowance, 5 weeks leave per annum, 9.5% Superannuation and annual airfare.  Access to Salary Packaging available. The successful applicant will be required to undergo a National Police Check and pre-employment medical check.
